DESK NOTE
The interesting thing here is not the club, it is what the club paid for: a 1907 house that would otherwise have been stripped or demolished, kept with its floors and doors intact. You are renting a room inside a preservation project that happens to serve very good cocktails.

§ 03 · THE TAKES
THE READ.
THE OFFICIAL READ

The building justifies it; the club is the part you can take or leave. Very few Soho Houses sit inside a restored Porfiriato mansion with more than 150 works by Mexican artists on the walls, and that is what you are actually buying. Come for Casa Prim and treat the social machinery as a bonus.

THE OFF-BOOK READ

Not remotely under the radar. designboom covered the opening in October 2023, and the account has pulled in close to 76,000 followers since. What is less known is how good the immediate blocks of Juárez are, which is the real find here.

§ 04 · WHY UNBOOKABLE
Three
angles.
ANGLE · 01

Original floors, restored bones

The 1907 casa was not gutted. The in-house Soho House design team kept the original wooden floors and doors, so you get the creak and warp of a real Porfiriato mansion rather than a reproduction of one. Mexican firm Sordo Madaleno, founded by Juan Sordo Madaleno in 1937, collaborated on the project, and the newer volume reads as a deliberate counterpoint instead of a costume.

FIELD · 001EX · A
ANGLE · 02

Kostow shaped the food program

The culinary program was built with chef Christopher Kostow, which is a serious commitment for a members' club and not a name most people expect to find on General Prim. Expect the Soho House template, all-day club food and long lunches, run through Mexican produce and market ingredients. Eat here once for the room and the light, then let the neighbourhood handle the rest of your week.

FIELD · 002EX · B
ANGLE · 03

Juárez earns the walk

Colonia Juárez sits between Reforma's towers and Roma Norte's cafés, and it has quietly become one of the most interesting eating strips in the city. Havre and Versalles alone will fill two nights. Zona Rosa is a few blocks east if you want noise, Chapultepec is a short ride west, and Roma Norte is about fifteen minutes on foot.

FIELD · 003EX · C
§ 05 · THE CAVEATS
Real
talk.
01POINT · SCALE

It runs as a full members' club with a rooftop pool, so the public floors are busier and louder than the bedroom side suggests.

02POINT · AUDIENCE

It is built for people who want to be around other people, and a solo traveller after silence will feel like they overpaid.

03POINT · VARIANCE

Rooms split between the restored 1907 casa and the newer volume: the older ones carry the character, the newer ones the consistency.

04POINT · COMPETITION

Roma Norte and Condesa are full of design-led hotels at lower rates, so part of what you pay for here is the house access and the address.

THE BRIEFING
Around 76,000 people follow this house on Instagram, and most of them will never get past the front desk.

The bedrooms, though, are open to anyone willing to plan ahead. Soho House arrived in Mexico City in 2023, its first house in Latin America, and it did the smart thing: it moved into Casa Prim, a Porfiriato-era residence built in 1907 on a quiet street in Colonia Juárez, and left the bones alone.

The project was developed with Mexican architecture firm Sordo Madaleno, founded by Juan Sordo Madaleno in 1937, while the in-house Soho House design team ran the restoration, keeping the original wooden floors and doors. The building once belonged to General Juan Prim, commander of the Spanish expeditionary army in Mexico, which is where the name comes from. Inside, more than 150 original artworks by local artists hang across the club floors. It books out at peak, so treat the good weeks as something you plan for.

Mexico City runs on a two-peak calendar, and understanding why the curve looks the way it does is worth more than any temperature chart. The first peak is spring, roughly March into April, the dry-season stretch when the jacarandas turn the city violet and the skies stay clear. The second is late October into November, when Day of the Dead brings the single biggest travel surge of the year. Those are the weeks the city sells to the world, and they are the weeks the small design houses fill first.

For those peaks, plan far ahead. The Roma and Polanco properties that matter, the handful in the upper tiers, can close out three months before Day of the Dead and the jacaranda weeks, and there is no overflow wing when a hotel has nine or twenty rooms. If your trip is fixed to those dates, book the room before the flights.

The genuinely undervalued window is the summer rainy season, June through August. The rain scares people off, but it arrives as short, predictable afternoon storms that clear by evening, leaving bright mornings for everything you actually came to do. Demand drops to its yearly low, the same rooms that vanish in October sit open, and rates soften across the board. Shoulder travelers who do not need the jacarandas get the best value of the year here.

The rest of the calendar fills in around the peaks. February, May, September, and December run warm with demand: September carries Independence Day on the 16th and its plaza celebrations, and December brings the Guadalupe pilgrimage and Christmas, both of which tighten the center in particular. January sits quiet after the holidays, another soft, workable window.

The one thing Mexico City never does is close. There is no dead season, no shuttered-hotel month; the city works year-round, so the only real decision is how much company you want and how early you are willing to commit. Book the peaks early, take the summer if you can be flexible.

§ 11 · LEAD TIME
Plan the
approach.
HIGHSOHO HOUSE MEXICO CITY

Aim for eight to twelve weeks out for peak dates, since it books out around the late-October events and the winter high season. Three to four weeks is usually plenty for a midweek stay in May, June, or September.

TIP · 01UB-MEX-024
BEST ROOM.

Push for a room inside the restored 1907 casa rather than the newer volume: that is where the original wooden floors and doors survive, and the proportions are stranger and better. Ask for an upper floor set back from General Prim, since street noise carries late. Courtyard-facing beats street-facing every time.

THE WORKAROUND.

Book direct at https://www.sohohouse.com/houses/soho-house-mexico-city. Non-members can reserve bedrooms, and the stay includes house access while you are there. It is also listed on the usual booking sites, so compare before committing. It books out at peak, so avoid late October, when the Formula 1 weekend and Day of the Dead collide, plus Semana Santa.

LOCAL TIP.

MEX is about 45 minutes out, longer in evening traffic. Take an authorised airport taxi or order a ride from the upper departures level to skip the arrivals queue. On Sundays, Reforma closes to cars until early afternoon, so borrow a bike. Carry small pesos for street food, since the good stalls do not take cards.
